These actually really keep the water out of my ears under a swim cap. You do have to work them up your ear canal so the first two flanges have a chance to engage.But be careful not to put them too far and bruise your ear drum. Was surprised and happy.This is a soft silicone product which really helps to avoid ear pain. On the downside, you really have to ram these deep into your ear canal. I use the product while on travel to block out noise in a hotel environment and they are reasonably effective at doing so; 85% reduction in noise.
